The World and many of its nation states have set out an ambitious national clean energy policy – Net Zero - to fully decarbonise the economy by 2050. Our future energy scenario envisages clean and sustainable energy generation from renewable sources for homes and industry.
This energy generation must at the same time remain affordable, reliable and secure if our economy is to thrive.
The Committee on Climate Change, The Paris Agreement has set out pathways towards Net Zero, but there is recognition that the goal is challenging. The dominant renewable energy sources, solar and wind, have seen significant technological advancements and falling costs, but their intermittency and substantial land usage pose serious problems.
Nuclear fission and fusion are evolving but for different reasons their futures are uncertain.
Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) is not yet a mature technology. Hydrogen is an important part of the decarbonisation, notably for the industrial steal & cement production and sectors, but affordable “green” CO2 neutral electricity is required for its production.
To achieve Net Zero, we must develop new renewable energy generation technologies that deliver continuous base load clean power, as part of a balanced energy mix.
Space Based Solar Power by mankind.space is the industrialisation of harvesting solar energy in space, and beaming it to earth, thereby overcoming the Tropospheric filters (72% reduced energy delivery on earth) and the intermittency of terrestrial renewable energy. (day and night) / (Summer & Winter) cycles.
The benefits mankind.space is offering include clean, continuous base-load energy, with much lower land usage than conventional renewables and the lowest maintenance and cost per Joules. Mankind could provide a substantial percentage of the Worlds electric energy needs in the future, as part of a mix of energy technologies.
mankind.Space Power Satellite designs are well advanced as presented on the website. Several nations and Governments have confirmed since 1979 the engineering feasibility of the concept through several independent studies in the past 30 years.
A societal mankind saving ‘Moonshot’ is now needed to help deliver on Net Zero.
In order to accelerate development of Space Based Solar Power for Mankind, the Space Bases Solar Power Initiative (SpaceBasedSolarPowerInitiative) has been established, bringing together research capabilities, legal partners and commercial partners, in energy, space, materials, and manufacturing.
Mankind will commission research and development, form collaborative partnerships,
and support the international development of regulations.
It will encourage investment into Mankind, create high value jobs, and pave the route for
a substantial proportion of our clean energy needs being delivered from space by 2030.
A societal mankind saving moon shot is needed
to develop a known. but yet completely
new clean energy technology.
mankind.space will lead the development
of Space Based Solar power for all of mankind.
Its aim is to establish an orbital demonstrator by
2023, an operational capability by
2025, and with a substantial
proportion of our energy needs being
delivered by 2030 by Space Based Solar Power.
